Facing issues in Enable editing log messages.

Ramamurthy, Manochitra

Hi Team,

Greetings !

I’m unsure whom to contact I found this mailing address when I do search for this issue.

I have joined this organization INTEVA before few months and taking of SVN. I have query regarding Enable editing log messages in SVN which I have no clue on it. But just googling I followed below steps but no luck.

·         Created “pre-revprop-change” hook under hooks directory.

·         Added below script in it.

---SNIP---

REPOS="$1"

REV="$2"

USER="$3"

PROPNAME="$4"

if [ "$PROPNAME" = "svn:log" ]; then exit 0; fi

if [ "$PROPNAME" = "svn:date" ]; then exit 0; fi

exit 1

---SNIP---

Pasted from <https://svn.haxx.se/tsvnusers/archive-2007-02/0046.shtml>

·         Executed this svn propset -r * revision no* --revprop svn:log new message *URL*

Please assist me or point me to someone who can help me.

Thanks,

Mano

The failures shown in your screenshot are due to authentication, and appear to be unrelated to Subversion. It would appear that the csvn user is either an invalid user or you have the wrong password.

RE: Facing issues in Enable editing log messages.

Ramamurthy, Manochitra

Hi Eric,

So I believe the script which I have used for pre-revprop-change hook is correct.

I will try to check about csvn user and password. But I have no clue with whom to check here. I will try to find it out.

Thanks for your quick response.

Thanks,

Mano

3.      In above screenshot I gave password of CSVN account but still it prompts for credentials.

Please guide me, i want to enable editing log messages.

You're using the wrong password for 'csvn' for the Subversion server.
Not your Windows password. These appear to be in different
authentication realms.

The thing that's asking you for the password for 'csvn' is the Apache
server that it the front-end for Subversion. Subversion itself does not
do authentication in this configuration.

RE: Facing issues in Enable editing log messages.

Ramamurthy, Manochitra

Hi Brane,

I’ve requested to reset Subversion ‘csvn’ account password and tried again but it doesn’t work.

First of all I have to confirm whether my steps are correct to enable editing log message. Because, with help of SVN help guides I’m trying to do this.

May be for better communication, you can schedule a meeting with screen share. I’m available for one more hour.

Well I can't help you with that, your server admins have to fix it.

Can you use the 'csvn' user for any other operation on the repository? If not, that'd be a clue. If yes, then most likely there's a problem with the Apache server configuration.

You showed us that you logged in to Windows with an account called 'csvn'. That's not the same as authenticating to the Apache server that's the front end for Subversion. The passwords could easily be different, even if the account name is the same.

What he means is that the Subversion account is unrelated to your Windows account.  In effect it is on another machine.  In fact, nothing requires the Subversion account have the same username or password as your Windows account.  What you need to do is obtain the Subversion account password from your repository administrator.  Then use that password whenever you need to perform a Subversion action.

By the way, please don't top-post - it makes the conversation hard to follow.

Yes, you are correct Subversion account is unrelated to Windows account and “csvn” account is not a windows one. It is subversion admin account.

As you said this “csvn” account is created by repository administrator.
